A bit about me
The Summer holidays is the only time in the year I feel it’s possible for drama teachers to properly switch off.
But as I would near the end of August each year, I would start thinking about September and feel a bit of dread, especially about teaching Key Stage 3.
What am I teaching? Will they enjoy the lessons? What will behaviour be like?
My Key Stage 3 teaching was always something I lacked confidence in.
I used to think I would get more time and headspace in the Summer Term to plan out my Key Stage 3 curriculum for September but the truth is that, even though exam groups have left, I never found time to do it.
Then, a few years ago, I really carved out some time to look at what I was delivering at Key Stage 3.
I mean really look.
I took a step-by-step approach to creating a curriculum, tailored to my school and my students, and made sure everything was in place by the end of July.
This allowed me to go away in August and properly relax.
(OK, my mind was still buzzing a bit with teaching ideas, as it always is!)
But I felt so much more confident going in at the start of September.
This gave me the best start to the year with the Key Stage 3 groups.
