Course Description

Across these two live online sessions, We Teach Drama Director Lucy Bellingham will open up the planning behind two of her most successful theatre design workshops. Lucy will take you through each workshop from beginning to end, sharing how she introduces the fundamental principles of set and costume design, organises accessible practical activities and helps students develop more thoughtful and purposeful ideas. The workshops use minimal specialist equipment and can be adapted for students aged 6–19, different teaching settings and varying levels of design experience. Inside My Set Design Workshop will explore: introducing the role and key principles of set design preparing the space and organising resources accessible practical making and design-development activities using questioning to move students beyond their first ideas supporting beginners and stretching more confident designers developing the workshop into further lessons, projects or productions Inside My Costume Design Workshop will explore: introducing the role and key principles of costume design using inspiration, materials and practical exploration connecting costume choices with character and meaning developing ideas through making and sketching questioning, differentiation and approaches for extending students adapting the workshop for different ages and creative projects By the end of the two sessions, you will have clear, adaptable plans for delivering practical set and costume design workshops—and greater confidence in guiding students through the creative design process. Payment and invoices For bookings under £99, places must be booked and paid for directly through our website. A school finance team can complete the online booking using a school payment card, or a teacher can book individually and use the receipt to claim the cost back through their school.
