Teach Sound Design – An Introductory Workshop is a practical, high-impact workshop that introduces students aged 11–19 to the fundamental principles of theatrical sound design.

Designed for both specialist and non-specialist teachers, this workshop explores the role of the sound designer and how sound communicates mood, atmosphere, setting and character. Using a range of professional examples and a practical Foley-based radio play adaptation inspired by The Shadow, students learn key sound design terminology, investigate how sound is created and manipulated, and experiment with live and recorded sound to create purposeful soundscapes.

The session can be used as a standalone introduction to sound design or embedded within a wider design or technical theatre scheme of learning across Key Stage 3, GCSE and post-16 study. It is also ideal for enrichment days and technical theatre or drama clubs.
